BIOGRAPHY

With 13 years of DJ experience under his belt, Filippo Vicaro knows a thing or two about parties and the underground scene. It all started with his love for dance music from the 90s, which still influences him today, but when asked about what set him off on his journey in becoming a DJ, he answers that "without a shadow of a doubt, Italian DJs and house music".

Playing music in his teens at house parties made him realize how much he loves making people dance. But it wasn't just that. Electronic music really allowed him to exploit his drive for experimentation, with endless possibilities, letting his creativity run wild.

Performing regularly in different venues in Italy, he became a resident in the famous Fresh N Fruit club in Padova. This was followed by the launch of his own night called Nightwave in Vicenza. Thirsty for more and with an increasing number of international bookings coming in, he made the bold decision to move to Tokyo, where he spent a year and held a residence in the Mojos club. The former saxophone player has played gigs all over the world, from Manchester to Hong Kong, at festivals or in clubs like Tripod in Dublin and alongside names such as James Holden, Ricardo Villalobos and Alex Picone.

As though he wasn't busy enough, Vica founded a new project in 2005, the Photosonic Orchestra, an electronic/dance duo. Together, Vica and his partner were asked to play all over the world. The band soon established a considerable fan base and were even among the nominees for Best Live Act Performers at the Irish Dance Music Awards in 2006. Their album Anagraph released by Emi enjoyed a noticeable success, as the pair was nominated for Best Music Art Video at one of the Festival de Cannes sub-competitions as well as headlining at the Whirly Gig 2009 and D.E.A.F.Music Festival 2009 in Ireland, in addition to a number of other live shows. Photosonic Orchestra's music can be described as an eclectic electronic mix of nu jazz, ambient with some deep-house influences.

Filippo Vicario recently moved to Berlin so as to get fully submerged in the underbelly of the city’s electronic nightlife. The past months were quite busy indeed: Vica already released 3 EPs with Minimal Kidz and Serif Records from Leeds, worked with Daryus Syrossian and released an EP with an artist from ViVa records. He is now preparing to launch new tracks with the renowned record label Indepth Music Records and has scored a collaboration with singer Sunday Luv (bar25) as well as involving himself with the up-and-coming Berliner label Feingefühl.
